DNC: Tammy Duckworth

I am a democrat from Chicago, IL so I was very proud to hear Tammy Duckworth tell her story.  On a very related note I adored how she fabulous she looked and am now craving a red blazer.  Found this cute blazer below in my initial search.

Wardrobe Planning: Fall 2012 – An Intro

Image

After talking to my bestie I have begun to consider what my fall wardrobe would look like if I in fact planned it in advance.  Each of us has had a weight change since last fall (hers a wonderful loss mine we won’t mention lol) and we each need multiple pieces for our new sizes. When you plan in advance you can purchase the trends you want, cultivate the look you want, all while staying on budget. Lets say you set aside $75 each paycheck/twice a month so that would give you $450 each season.

First you want to think of how you live: is most of your time spent at work? What do you do on the weekends? Do you have an active night life and what clothes will that include? Myself I will spend most of my time at work and on weekends most outings include my year and a half old son. That being said I also do a sprinkle of night life events and I am single therefore will be dating as well. So I’d say 75% would be work, 20% weekend, 5% nights out. Therefore I will make sure that most my budget goes to work and spend accordingly.

Next, do you know your style? I personally fall in a sexy secretary – lady-like prep look, think Charlotte with a good sprinkle of Samantha. If you don’t know your style figure it out and borrow from others.  Pick up the latest People Style pick out the celebrity whose closet you would like to raid. Next Google that celebrity and check out the images tab.  Taking a good look at that should show you what you like.  I personally would love to steal Kerry Washington’s closet any day.

Keep these first two steps in mind when shopping. Your personal lifestyle and fashion style will stay with you forever and if you do it right you do not need to add in one trend to look stylish every day of your life.  If  a trend does not mix with your style do not get get it.  If it does not look good with your body type do yourself a favor and stay far far away.

Next building your look . . . Bottoms for Fall 2012

There are a few trends I am considering playing with this fall.

Colored Pant for Fall = Colored Corduroy

I am looked at fall colors, mustard yellows, ruby reds, and deep plums that can be worn at work as well.

I bought this fabric awhile back n loved the stripes and the way the black had this washed out quality to it. I wanted to try to make a dress but I just bought a black and white striped dress a week ago. So I am attempting a maxi skirt. I already have sewn the back and the bottom hem, next for the elastic waist. I got lots of great instructions for DIY clothes on my Pinterest board Projects to Try.

Mrs Blair is Pregnant!!!

I so adore watching my Gossip Girl! My fashion craves from last night episode . . pink . . pink  . . pink! Between Sernea’s blazer and her cousin’s pants I am thinking even a pink suit would be a good investment right now.

Update: I think the pants are all sold out 😦 . . so here is a similar option.  Also a link for the jacket.

Capes, Plaids, & Cloaks . .

I will attempt to create a coat! This is a scary thought for me but I want to push myself to try to do it.  I got this great cream and brown plaid flannel fabric from the thrift store and knew I wanted to use it for outterwear due to its weight.  Add to the fact that I do not own any mid-season/Fall coats.  So I have been looking up patterns to try out with it.  Here is the fabric, I hope I have enough it was a thrift store find :D.

My only real question is would it be too much if I make my little man a coat out of the same fabric too? I got plenty of fabric and he is at least getting some pants out of it.  Comment your thoughts and let me know!

Square Slouch Tops

One of my first projects I am going to work on is making myself a new crop tee.  I have one I got from Nordstrom’s that swings and sits just right.  I bought some remnant fabric in an African print and plan to make myself a second top and a headband to match :-).

Here is the original top.

and here is the African print fabric that I have already started shaping into a new top.

I am really excited because I love the fabric.  However, my pocketbook may currently decide for me that this top needs to be held for selling.   (More on the upcoming store site later)   Until then I will finish it out and see how it goes.
